Southern Express Softball held organization-wide tryouts for 8U thru 18U divisions.  To find out about any openings on teams, please visit the TEAM OPENINGS page.   To tryout for any remaining team openings, or to request to be placed on a substitute or fill-in roster, please contact the coach to schedule a player evaluation.

SI Athlete of the Week:  Sydnee Rushing2015-05-17 Sydnee Rushing

Goreville's Sydnee Rushing [Express 96] finished her high school career with 1,011 strikeouts and a career ERA of 1.50.   In her senior season with the Blackcats, she averaged nearly 12 strikeouts a game, held a .464 batting average, and was named Black Diamond Conference MVP.

Carbondale's Olivia Clark-Kittleson is currently a senior, batting .400 and is a standout on her Terrier squad.  Olivia recently signed to play softball at the University of Southern Indiana.

Junior High Express Girls Help Teams to State TournamentLogo-SIJHSAA

Express girls from several junior squads helped their teams at the SIJHSAA State Tournament in October.  Express players representing DeSoto Grade School helped their Class S team win a state championship.  Players from Pinckneyville 204 helped their Class M team take fourth place in the state tournament.  And Express girls representing Johnston City helped their team win a Class L state championship!  Great job girls!

Express Girls Help Their Teams in the 2013 IHSA State Tournament

Logo-IHSATwo high school from Southern Illinois sent squads to the 2013 IHSA State Sofball Tournament in East Peoria, Illinois over the weekend of May 31-June 2, 2013.

The 2012 defending state champion Goreville Blackcats made the return trip to the state tournament and were led by sophomore pitcher Sydnee Rushing [Express 96] who helped her team storm to a third place victory on June 1 in the Class 1A tournament.

The 2012 Class 2A defending state champion Nashville Hornettes also made the return trip to East Peoria.  Junior shortstop Kiley Pelker [Express 95] stood out for the Hornettes of Nashville.  Pelker also helped lead her team to a third place victory on June 2 in the Class 2A tournament.


Shelbey Miller Makes OVC "All-Newcomer" Team

Former Express Girl and Goreville standout, Shelbey Miller [Express 93], continues to rake in the awards in her collegiate career at Murray State University.  Miller completed her freshman year for the Racers by earning "All-Newcomer" Recognition in the Ohio Valley Conference.

SI Athlete of the Week:  Sydnee Rushing

Goreville's Sydnee Rushing [Express 96] went the entire 2012 post-season without giving up a single run to lead her team to an IHSA State Championship.  Rushing attempts to continue her streak as she helps earn her team a trip to the 2013 IHSA State Tournament.

Chandra Parr [Express 95] from Anna-Jonesboro High School has made a remarkable comeback after suffering a torn ACL injury last season.  Parr has bounced back her senior year to help lead her team.

Congratulations going out to Cassicy Rice [Express 95] for being named the Southern Illinoisan "Athlete of the Week".  Rice is a stand-out pitcher for DuQuoin High School. Her presence on the mound is a major force for the Indians.

Southern Express Girls Help Their Teams to 2012 IHSA State Championships!Logo-IHSA

Southern Illinois had two high school softball teams crowned IHSA State Champions:  Goreville [Class 1A], and Nashville [Class 2A].

The Goreville Lady Blackcats sported two girls with Southern Express colors:  Shelbey Miller, senior shortshop [Express 18U]; and Sydnee Rushing, freshman pitcher [Express 96].  Rushing ended her freshman season with six shutouts in the IHSA state tournament series.  Rushing had 13 strike-outs to help her team shut-out Payson-Seymour in the championship game by a score  6-0.

The Nashville Hornettes also had two Southern Express girls starting on their roster:  Kiley Pelker, junior shortstop [Express 95]; and Emily Thompson, freshman left fielder [Express 96].  Pelker recorded 4 hits in a perfect 4-4 performance in the Class 2A Championship game to help her team win the championship game over Williamsville by a score 6-2.
